In this work, the female figure returns as a universal presence: not a specific portrait, but a body that absorbs the weight of the present.
Her gaze is stern, almost judgemental, because it does more than observe: it questions. The viewer is called to account.
The heavily diluted oil paint is absorbed by the raw canvas, behaving almost like watercolour: rather than asserting itself on the surface, the image seems to emerge and wear away with it.
The geometric fields of colour function not merely as a decorative background, but as structures of control, division, and social construction. The figure remains trapped between solid forms and empty spaces, presence and erasure.
In dialogue with Resistance, the work could form part of a series devoted to contemporary vulnerability: women who embody not passive victims, but clear-eyed witnesses to an era in which collective suffering is often normalised or viewed from a distance.
